Celebrity Portrait

For 17 days I have posted a different celebrity portrait that I have painted and paired it with a photo of the celebrity. Today is my final celebrity portrait post, and I chose this piece I painted of Madonna. The photo on the left was taken from her “Like a Virgin” days, and the painting on the right is reminiscent of the “Ray of Light” period. Out of the hundreds of pieces that I have painted of celebrities throughout the years, I have painted more portraits of Madonna than any other celebrity.

I hope you enjoyed my posts during these last 17 days.

Madonna

About the artist…
In her years of practice, Italian-American artist Holly Picano has explored beauty and desire through images of female faces. Studying Visual Communication from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Picano incorporates a commercial feel to her images of women. One of the artist’s most notable pieces is a red headed Ms. Behave, created for the Peachy Canyon Winery wine label. The recipient of an Artist Enhancement Grant from the State of Florida, Picano continues her commitment to the arts through her paintings of female faces.

Celebrity Portrait

For the next 13 days, I will be sharing a different celebrity portrait that I have painted, along with their celebrity photo.

Today, I’m posting Italian-American music queen Madonna. She has kept us entertained from signing on with Sire Records in 1982, and she’s still going strong with her most recent appearance at Art Basel earlier this month. She has sold more than 300 million records, and is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time.

For the next 15 days, I will be sharing a different celebrity portrait that I have painted, along with their celebrity photo.

Today, I’m posting Italian-American Queen of Pop, Madonna. She achieved popularity by always pushing boundaries. Her look and fashion influenced girls and her style became one of the biggest fashion trends of the 80’s.

Happy Birthday Rebel Heart

In celebration of Madonna’s birthday, I am posting paintings of the pop queen during the month of August.

This painting is my personal favorite in my collection. I created this after attending Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet Tour in Atlanta, and after a trip to the Palace of Versailles, learning all about Marie Antoinette and her over the top lifestyle.

In Celebration of Madonna’s Birthday Month

In celebration of Madonna’s birthday month (she was born August 16th), each day this month, I will share with you a different image that I have painted of Madonna (until I run out of images).

We have a few things in common…

1. We are both from Michigan.

2. We are both Italian-American.

3. We both have ex-husbands named Sean.  🙂

Here is the image I am sharing with you today:“Lucky Star”

Close Up Marilyn by Holly Picano

Marilyn has always been one of the most beloved images when it comes to playing dress-up! You can recreate her look by focusing on long lashes and heavy liner. Don’t forget the shiny lips! Marilyn lined her lips in nude, and filled in with red lipstick. Lastly, add a beauty mark with black liner.

To recreate an early 80’s Madonna, scrunch up your hair with a curl spray for a messy tousled look. Focus should be on long lashes (though natural), draw your eyebrows a little longer out to the side, use a bold eye color, red lipstick and a dot of black liner for the beauty mark.

Look like Betty? Break out the black eyeliner to draw in cat eyes, apply pink or red to the lips, and most importantly wear your Betty wig for those signature bangs.
